Brideshead Revisited Brideshead Revisited PG-13 4.0 Stars
Beaitifully shot and superbly acted this is a great period drama telling the story of Charles Ryder (Matthew Goode) and his relationship with siblings Sebastain (Whinshaw) and Julia (Hayley Atwell) who he stays with in their stately home, Brideshead. Goode, Whinshaw and Atwell all put in great performances while Emma Thompson and Michael Gambon are at their usual best as Sebastain and Julia's parents. If you love a good period drama then this is up your alley, while fans of Evelyn Waugh's source novel may be pining for a longer adaptation as seen in an earlier TV adaptation.
My Summer of Love My Summer of Love R 3.0 Stars
Beautifully shot and acted, this film is more about the characters and their thoughts and feelings rather than the plot. Emily Blunt and Natalie Press play two young girls whose friendship turns to love. Blunt and Press are a good match and while their acting is good, this film can be slow at times, though overall this is a thought provoking film that leaves a lot of unanswered questions though is a fine character study.
Changeling Changeling R 5.0 Stars
Angelina Jolie is a revelation in this film and shows what a great actress she truly is. She dominates this film with a heartfelt and engaging performance that was truly worthy of her Best Actress Oscar nomination. She plays Christine Collins, a mother whose son disappears. The police investigation reunites her with a boy that is not her son and after fighting for a fresh hunt for her real son, Christine finds herself thrown into a mental asylum. She fights to clear her name and most importantly find her missing son. Based upon a true story, this is an involving and emotionally moving film, expertly directed by Clint Eastwood.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen PG-13 3.0 Stars
Much better than the first film, this sequel has all the brilliant special effects and action set pieces that were present before but the plot (while still flimsy) is more understandable. Shia LaBeouf is as likeable as ever and again proves to be a likeable leading man. The stunts, locations and set pieces are all fantastic and at the end of the day this delivers what you'd expect from this kind of film, brainless entertainment that thrills and excites.
The Happening The Happening R 2.5 Stars
M. Night Shyamalan tries to recapture the brilliance of his earlier films, though ultimately fails. This film that doesn't really go anywhere and has little explanation plot wise. At the end you find yourself scratching your head with what the whole film is about and trying to convey. That's not to say that this is a bad film, the performances are good and there are moments of tension. You just get the feeling that after the likes of The Sixth Sense, Shyamalan is sticking to the same kind of plot twits and shock value that he has become attached to and not branching out into a new area.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button The Curious Case of Benjamin Button PG-13 5.0 Stars
A unique and incredible film telling the story of Benjamin Button, who lives his life backwards -- he is born with the features of an old man and slowly becomes younger as he goes through life. Brad Pitt is a revelation as Benjamin, unrecognisable under the expert make up - he makes his character likeable, appealing and a great focus point for the plot. As his love interest, Cate Blanchett is equally brilliant. Taraji P. Henson as Benjamin's adoptive mother is also fabulous. With a interesting plot, superb make-up and terrific direction from David Fincher this is a journey through an extraordinary life in the tradition of Forrest Gump. And the long running time flies by at lightining speed.

The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King 1. The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King PG-13 5.0 Stars
The best of the LOTR trilogy it has it all - action, drama, emotion and great performances from a great cast. The perfect end to a perfect set of movies.
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring 2. The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring PG-13 5.0 Stars
The first of the fantasy trilogy is a great introdution to what is to come. I remember seeing this the first time at the cinema and being totally blown away.
The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers 3. The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers PG-13 5.0 Stars
Probably the weakest of the trilogy though still amazing. It suffers with having no real beginning or end. Though the battle of Helm's Deep is outstanding.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix 4. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix PG-13 5.0 Stars
You cannot fault the Harry Potter movies on their entertainment value. This fifth movie is a brilliant adaptation. Although at times it feels a bit rushed plot wise it is visually stunning and there are faultless performances from all no matter how big or small their part is. The main trio have matured brilliantly and of the new charcters Imelda Staunton, Evanna Lynch and Helena Bonham Carter shine.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 5. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire PG-13 5.0 Stars
The fourth movie in the Harry Potter series has a great dark edge. Yes it cuts out loads of the book but the Triwizard Tournaments tasks have been brought to life brilliantly. I wasn't disappointed.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 6. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban PG 5.0 Stars
Harry's world is starting to get darker in this third instalment in the HP series. The Dementors are very creepy and there's loads of great British talent on board in this one.

After watching it again recently, I have reevaluated my earlier statement... this is sequel better than the original. In my opinion. This one is bloodier, more brutal and where the first left with a sense of innocence and hope in life, the second strips it away, as the old school ex-gangsters watch as the honest world they tried to build is destroyed around them.

Kit and Ho, brothers on opposite sides of the law, team up again undercover to stop a world wide counterfeiting ring being established in Hong Kong. When a lead connects to Ho's old mentor and partner, Lung, they stumble upon a masterplan of treachery and betrayl, which ends in the death of Lung's daughter, and Lung fleeing to New York, only to be hunted while his friends are killed, and enters into shock and is admitted into a mental institution. His only hope is Ken, the twin brother of the legendary Mark, who died protecting Ho and Kit. Ken is forced to protect Lung from the Mob as they send hitmen after him, and when lung eventually regains his sanity, they head back to Hong Kong to settle the score.

Obviously no punches are pulled in this sequel, innocents are killed, lives destroyed, this is not a movie about redemption or finding peace like the first one was. Part 2 is all about betrayl and revenge, and knowing that you could never turn a blind eye to your past, especially in the Underworld.

Its bloody, packs quite a punch and even throws in some good humor. Chow Yun Fat is obviously the star, creating a funnier, wilder and more charasmatic figure in Ken, the show stealer. The restraunt scene with the rice and mobster is a classic moment. XD

Even though the movie drags a bit in time, the shock and deaths will carry on the suspense and thrills... and in the end, who knows?

    ENJOY!

This time around Michael Bay gives us plenty of explosions, average CGI and a decent plot buried beneath hot shots of Megan Fox and many sexual one liners. There is very, very little character development and the affection one felt for the autobots first time around is not built upon. Though the film is enjoyable and brings quite a few hilarious moments (dependent upon ones sense of humor), it lacks the emotional connection and 'cuteness' which was so audience friendly in the first one.
Unless you just want to see the 'bots' on the big screen, there's no other reason not to wait for the DVD....

    Classic!

One of John Woo and Tsui Hark's earliest hits, this was when gun fu was becoming what it is. Though it wasn't perfected yet, this was an operatic drama of brotherhood, family, blood and crime, one of premier gangster films. The story revolved around two borthers, Kit, a cop, and Ho, an underworld figure. The older brother, Ho, makes a promise to his father to leave behind his life so that he and Kitwould not cross paths. But when he and his best friend, Mark, are betrayed, he suddenly finds himself in prison, his father killed by an assassin, his life in ruins. When finally released, Kit rejects him and threatens to imprison him and his old gang, disbelieving any attempt to lead an honest life. On the other hand, Kit is also chasing after Shing, who betrayed Ho before, who is know a Kingpin. Reuniting with Mark who was also rejected by the gangs, they set out for revenge and to regain their dignity, and save Kit from being killed.

Simple and straightforward, dont expect the mass of violence and bullets as we are accustomed to in Woo's work... this was the prelude to the masterpieces of The Killer and Hard Boiled - but more storytelling than gun fighting, which is due to Hark's genius in creatvity. The story revolved around the oppurtunity of a second chance, the search for a better life and the importance of family and brotherhood.

This is one of Chow Yun's breathrough roles, a classic figure who's charm and style was a winner on the screen, playing a crippled but deadly gunman.

Watch this if you are a fan of Woo or Hark, or the series or Chow Yun. Or if you just like a good gangster film.

Honestly... not as good as the first and a disappointment. There! Sorry to break your hearts, but thats the truth. The beginning of the movie was awesome... near perfect. But it was deceptive, sorry to say, the middle was crap, a mushy love story thats supposed to get guys jealous of Shia and the amount of physical contact he has with Megan, a trampy love interest (twist!) with Isabel Lucas, and of course, an ass**** government guy who gets his ass handed to him in the end by Capt. Lennox.

Ill try to keep the pain as short as possible... the action scenes for the bots were "f***** up" beyond belief. They made them so fast and intriduced a "kung fu" element in it that it stuffed up the graphics... in the end it looked like puppets and dodgy animation back from 10 years ago. Thank god we didnt see any of that in most of the movie, but at one of the main fighting scenes, it ruined it. They needed to make it a little slower, not too fast, and in the end, they sacrificed the quality and those scenes looked crap compared to the firts movie. other than that, the rest was okay, the final war zone scene in Egypt was a class act.

What else? Isabel Lucas sucked, she played a "slut" pretty much... but prepare to be surprised. XD In the end though, I mean she's a good looking girl, but she is not competition to Megan Fox, thank god they made that clear as soon as possible. Hooray for Megan... shes the only celeb thats kept my attention for longer than 2 months, and yeah, its not due to her acting in this one. but maybe soon! (see? Im giving her a chance, Im sure she can improve!! I mean, Angelina sucked in the beginning! XD)

Anyways, the other cast was good, but the show goes to John Turturro and Ramon Rodriguez as the comedy due, it was nearly side splitting humor, and I loved it. But dont think the humans have all the fun!!

In the first movie, there were 14 bots. In this one.... 46! And introducing my favourites - the "Twins" - Mudflap and Skids, the crazy duo who steal the show, even from Bumblebee at times! Gotta love the Twins!! Also introducing Wheels, the Decepticon turned informer, and the very "geriatric" Jetfire, another defector to the Autobots. But expect more kick ass Transformers on the scene, including the "Construction" crew and the Fallen himself... *wink wink*

Now, the story wasn't half bad... it established a strong connection between human and transformer history, and it manages to connect the dots and shows the importance of the battle, the War coming to Earth and the seach for Energon. Production work... as expected, not bad but not inspiring either, except for the first and final scenes.

Thats the thing... I loved the beginning and I loved the end (even though it was a tad too long) - the middle was mostly... mixed. Loved the humor, Bumblebee and the Twin's antics, but the "human" scenes sucked. >____<""

Anyways.... I said Id try to keep the pain short, but in all honesty....

*looks around and comes in close

i ENJOYED TERMINATOR SALVATION BETTER!! Salvation.... is the better movie out of the two. I dont know why, but Salvation worked for me so well.... I didnt feel disappointed. But Transformers let me down, it cannot exceed its predecessor, it actually fell back two steps, which is surprising, because the original strengths of the movie were its visuals and graphics... and they stuffed it up here in my opinion in some crucial scenes.

    Enjoy.

    The Thing The Thing

Obviously from Carpenter's golden era, this is probably the best of his big production movies and certainly one of the most thrilling. The plot is chock full of tense thrills and the grotesque horror is first rate.

Carpenter teams up with his leading man Kurt Russell, who leads a group of American scientists in the Antarctic when their camp find themselves in an unearthly predicament... an alien chameleon which imitates organic lifeforms has infiltrated their camp, they are hundreds of miles from the nearest base and bad weather has cut all communications. with each of them being infected and killed one by one, its a mystery and race against time to stop the creature before it can escape.

An original thriller horror, it doesn't pull any punches and the effects are still disgusting and effective today. You will be wondering who is infected and who's not, as the team turn on one another, while Russell tries to figure out who is the alien in disguise.

Backed by Carpenter's trademark simplistic, yet effective score, the whole movie is simply made but has a profound effect, which in my books makes it a never-ending classic.

After viewing Defiance, I found myself without any negative criticisms for the film. From beginning to end, this true tale of the Bielski brothers WWII adventures into the Blearussian forest is captivating and astonishing. The polished script, flawless cinematography and brilliant acting are just icing on the cake for this inspiring story of Jewish people who resisted the Nazi occupation.

Jeez, I thought the first movie was created by some guy high on crack.... man it was some good shit.

This one.... someone had a brain explosion!!!!

If you thought it could get any crazier... High Voltage is a shocking good time in hardcore violence, debauchery and everything dirty, nasty... all our guilty pleasures. XD

Pretty much we should all be scratching our heads and wondering if anything is possible... if we took a free fall dive out of a helicopter we'd be avacado paste. But then again, we arent Chev "Superman" Chelios.... god damn, theres no way I can write a PG rated review which would make sense.

Just watch the damn movie if you are as sick and twisted movie goer like me. Or, as the Flix stats put it, 60% of us liked it. We are all f****** up arent we? XD

Its no T2... and in all respects, you don't go watch this movie to comment on his great storytelling, superb acting or directing... you got watch this just to have a good effin' time.

Anyways, superb camera work, soundtrack and action of course!!! And for people who have a problem with Bale's "Bruce Wayne" voice and Sam Worthington's "Aussie" accent... well like I said, its noticeable but please dont make a huge deal about it. Its not worth the energy or your time, and who really cares?? Im concentrating on watching the entire screen blowing up in my face, a lot of guns and kick ass machines. Who gives a shit about accents??

Anyways, Sam Worthington was great, an action star in the making... forget the Aussie accent, he rocks cause he's Aussie! I mean, noone gives a shit about how Jason Statham speaks like a Brit in his movies. XD

As for Bale, good job, but as for the accent, thats the way his American accent is... the Bruce Wayne NOT Batman voice. I mean, we can't have him talking Welsh now can we? The screen time was shared, but the movie really goes to Worthington and young Anton Yelchin whoes making a few appearances - he pulled of a great Kyle Reese, Michael Biehn and James Cameron would be proud. There is a lot of throwbacks to the original movies to which Im glad they stayed true to... but the twist of half organic and half machine part humans was freaky... but as the story goes, the movie was really about Marcus Wright's "salvation" from a murderer to hero... he got his second chance and made it count, despite not being human on the outside, he was human when it counts - a quick throwback to T2 when Arnie was learning "human behaviour" from John.

I guess the best part is the appearance of "Arnie"... it was the "original" buff and long haired model... and though we see a lot of big guys and Worthington is not small, but Arnie really does make everyone seem damn small... freakish! Notable mention to my man Common, he had great screen time, and Moon Bloodgood is smokin.... but whats with the name???

Anyways, seriously, one of the bestsci-fi flicks out. Its the year of the Sci fi methinks, with this and Star Trek taking huge slices of the pie, and if thats not enough, Transformers 2 is coming soon!!! Talk about across the board, ages and generations... O___O

Astronomers discover a giant comet on a collision course with the Earth, so a manned rocket armed with nuclear warheads is sent to intercept it.

Tea Leoni plays the reporter who is keeping TV viewers informed of the impending crisis, and coping with a family crisis of her own - her parents have split up, and her Dad is running off with a younger woman! Unfortunately, this is just one of several distracting sub-plots which doesn't really advance the main plot in any way. Furthermore, Leoni's acting is totally flat and uninspired; they could have chosen a much better lead actress. However, Morgan Freeman is convincing as the U.S. President, and Robert Duvall is good as the senior astronaut.

There are some very moving scenes as the astronauts say good-bye to their loved ones just before embarking on a suicide mission to save the world, and the special effects are awesome as the comet slams into the Atlantic Ocean, creating a huge tsunami (not a tidal wave!), which engulfs the entire eastern seaboard.

Also starring a younger-looking Elijah Wood (Frodo from "Lord of the Rings").

An excellent cast and certainly no slouch in the action and gore (Kill Bill gets owned by this one in terms of blood and body parts) but this particular gangster film is not quite as polished as Election or SPL.... don't know why, but maybe because it does take things over the top.

Nevertheless, its bold, a twist in the story lines and a change pace from good vs bad, as the Triad faces destruction from within, and the cops are circling, waiting for the final takedown to destroy the all powerful gang.

Acting is superb, veterans Sammo Hung and Simon Yam lead the way once again, as two brothers and leaders of the ill fated Triad, supported by a young cast with deadly expertise. A hard hitting thriller of trust and betrayl and blood, watch it if you enjoyed the other Hong Kong gangster films, which usually are some of the best these days.
